Supporting your ‘assets’ when running.
A Runners Review of the Nike Dri-FIT Updated Strength Bra, Freya AA4002, Shock Absorber Max Support Sports Bra Top and the Enell Sport Sports Bra
As runners, it is our duty to provide our bodies with the support they need, whether that is during a ten minute sprint around the block or when training hard for a marathon. While our main focus tends to be upon our feet and legs (primarily as these are what we use to run!) it can be easy to forget other body parts that need the same level of consideration. Yes ladies, I am talking about those two things that are often at the forefront of every female runner’s annoyance; your breasts!
I often think to myself when out training on the streets, ‘these damn things are what really gives men the advantage as runners as well as what attracts all the unwanted comments from less discrete members of the opposite sex!’ However, I also understand the importance of supporting these ‘assets’ when out on a run.
As women run, their breasts move in a figure of eight, over time this movement can cause premature sagging if not supported sufficiently by a sports bra. Sports bras come in a range of designs and vary in their support dependent upon the level of intensity of the exercise, for instance a sports bra for yoga will vary greatly in support for that of a sports bra designed to be worn for running so make sure you read the packet carefully to ensure you are investing in the right one for your level of activity!
To make it all that easier for you I have reviewed the top running sports bras on the market. For women, finding the right fitting sports bra is as important as finding the right running shoes. Not only will the right bra provide your breasts with the support they need, it will also make running more comfortable and easier.
Nike Dri-FIT Updated Strength Bra
The Nike Dri-FIT Updated Strength Sports Bra comes in two designs; white and black (as shown). Its inner moulded padded cups offer great support as well as a flattering fit. The bra also has Dri-FIT technology that wicks sweat away from the body as well as ergonomic seams that prevent chafing. This sports bra is a good all rounder for women with breasts ranging from an A-D cup.

Freya AA4002
The Freya AA4002 sports bra is suitable for intense running and is available in sizes up to an H cup. The built-in under wiring provides lift and shape, perfect for women with larger breasts. The AA4002 sports bra is also made with Coolmax fabric, of which wicks away sweat, keeping you comfortable on those longer runs. Freya’s sports bra range is also a contender in the 2010 Women’s Fitness Awards.

**My Top Pick!** Â - The Shock Absorber Max Support Sports Bra Top
The Shock Absorber Max Support Sports Bra Top  is available in sizes A to HH and can be comfortably worn as an outer or under garment. The sports bra provides support for high intensity training and with four colours to choose from and a trendy racer back design I would vote this the most stylish of the bras reviewed. The bra was voted No.1 Sports Bra by Runner’s World magazine in 2009 and is also a contender for the 2010 Women’s Fitness Awards.

Enell Sport Sports Bra
The Enell Sport Sports Bra is designed for women with a larger breast, who want maximum support and minimal bounce. The thick straps and high neck line provide coverage and due to the non-stretch fabric used in the upper front portion of the bra you can be sure there will be no slipping as well as the full security you need to run comfortably and with confidence.

I’m a 32HH and I play a lot of badminton, which involves me jumping and running quite intensely around the court. I wear the Shock Absorber Max Sports and find it superbly comfortable and amazingly supportive – it certainly eliminates all bounce! Finally, I can forget out having a large bust and just get on with playing my sport.
Thanks for your comment Jo! It’s great to hear how well the bra performs its duty during other sport aside from running!
You have to go with the Nike sports bras. They are awesome and once you try it you will not want another one.
I have found several sports bras that are both comfortable and supportive at Athleta.com. I highly recommend looking into it.
Thanks for your comments everyone, Mandy, glad the Enell is working well for you too, I was really impressed when wearing one for aerobics
Thanks for commenting on the Enell. I have found that it is a superior sports bra for my ample bustline (it doesn’t matter how thin I get those puppies are always there). I think I may also try the Freya at some point. From your comments it may give me some variety.

I own three of the Freya soft cup sports bras and can’t say enough good about them. As a 36G, I need all the support I can get. They might be a little pointy, but I’ll sacrifice looks for support any day. I’m training for a half marathon and this is the only sports bra I’ve found that keeps the ladies in their place.
I love that Nike Sports Bra.. It looks so sturdy and comfortable.
