Nike Air Max+ 2011 ID Review
Available from Nike Store
We are honoured to announce that the lovely people at Nike have asked RunTheLine to design and trial our own pair of the new, top of the range Nike Air Max iD running shoes! Of course, we jumped at the chance to get our hands on a pair and can’t wait to get them out on the track, however, first things first, the online design process….
Every runner is different, from their foot’s size and shape, their running style, their reason for running to their preferential when it comes to what they look for in a running shoe, the whole concept of Nike iD is that runners and athletes alike can design a shoe that suits their individual needs, right down to what coloured laces they’d prefer!
Nike.com allows you to narrow down your selection across their vast range by selecting your gender, the sport and function of the shoe you require (just select the ‘customise with Nike iD option from the left hand menu). The function menu includes ‘stability’, ‘racing’, ‘cushioning’ and ‘lightweight’, I decided to select cushioning as due to being a long distance runner it is the design aspect that I always look for when purchasing running shoes. You are then prompted to choose from a selection of models that are relevant to your requirements that you can then customise further to suit you individually.
Each model lists all of the technical components of the shoe beneath so that you can be sure you have made the right choice, these include; the key benefits, cushioning, colours, construction and any additional details dependent upon the model you have chosen.
Throughout the design process your ‘design progress’ is tracked, this ensures that you don’t miss anything. As you scroll over the shoe image various components are highlighted for you to edit their colour and design. You also have the choice of a ‘wide’ fitting shoe as well as half sizes, this helping you to find that perfect fit.
Perhaps one of the most exciting features to the Nike iD running shoes is that you can add your own personal ‘iD’ to the back of the shoe – something that will truly set them apart from any other shoes at your club!
There is also the option of going for a ‘cushioned’ or ‘responsive’ sole, this enabling you to further influence the design of your shoe dependent upon your running style and personal preference.
Overall, I found the Nike iD site straight forward and easy to use as well as fun! You can rotate your trainer to get a view from all angles and the colour options all fit in with Nike’s latest season of running gear so you can co-ordinate completely. For those of you who find the whole process a little too ‘creative’ you can select from a wide range of previously designed shoes and just alter the functional aspects, however, I can guarantee that once you start playing with colour schemes you won’t be able to resist designing something a little more individual!
Watch this space for my full performance review of the Nike Air Max 2011 iD Running shoes…the only bad thing is that I’m going to have to wait for up to 5 weeks for them!

Thanks so much for sharing this review. I agree that this would be an ideal footwear to have.
Hey Sophie, nice info about the Nike Air Max+ 2011 ID. Even though Nike has the best trainers around they have stepped up by giving customized and personalized trainers that give you the perfect fit. 5 weeks is a long time but i feel its definitely worth the wait.
Hello, it is so nice site.
Nike, Are always on my top priority when it come to fitness training accessories. The comfort and cushioning in the Nike air is far superior to the Adidas and Reebok. Although there are lot much spent on marketing, advertising and promotional activities on sports accessories. Many companies even do online marketing and information gathering on consumer demand for analysis and bringing the best shoes. Nike is thus far superior, their comfort factor is great and I simply love the nike.
Thank you for the post Sophie.
I currently own this shoe, size 9. It fits great, feels great, looks great. Except the fact that the left shoe squeaks everytime I walk in it. I got this shoe after a RMA for the 2010 Air Max which I sent in because the left shoe also squeaks when I walk. After 1 week, the left shoe began to squeak. I’m utterly shocked with disbelief. $160, and it squeaks when I walk. My 24/7 Air Max does the same, left shoe squeaks. Even those shoes where a exchange, for the same shoe with the same problem. If I were to request an RMA again, shipping is $10 and tax is $20. $30 in addition to $160 which I already paid. Unbelievable! I’m practically over Nike. I strongly do not recommend.
Seems like abit of a gimmick to me! Albeit a very cool one. I’ll be interested to see if the performance of these match up to the likes of Ascis, Mizuno, Brooks etc…
